Darfur Diaries – Message from Home is a documentary video featuring interviews with many victims of the devastating genocide taking place in the area. The filmmakers seek to shine some light on this dark chapter in human history, encouraging people to make a great effort for humanitarian relief in besieged Dafur.

Tthis film seeks to provide space for the marginalized victims of atrocities to speak and to engage with the world. Additionally, the film probes the history, culture and heritage of Darfur as a means of deepening understanding of the crisis and complicating easily assumed perceptions by which the conflict is often portrayed (such as a matter of race, ethnicity or religion).

The video above is one of the most disarmingly simple but lovely documentaries of the year. It features a candid snapshot of a single day on planet Earth directed by Oscar winner Kevin Macdonald of The Last King of Scotland and produced by Ridley Scott of Alien, Gladiator. It presents a microcosmic picture of the daily experiences as a global society through thousands of YouTube clips submissions by contributors in 192 countries. All shot on July 24, 2010.

The documentary all tells that from the mundane to the profound, everything has its place as we spend 90 minutes gaining greater insight into the lives of people who may be more like us than we ever suspected, despite the fact that we’re separated by incredible distances.

The video above features a compilation of movie clips from the American propaganda films of the 1950′s that are immensely entertaining and devilishly witty. It is considered as one of the defining documentaries of the 20th century.

The film serves up a revealing slice of American history: the legendary decade when we learned to live in a nuclear world. It talks about a darkly humorous glimpse into mid-century America, an era rife with paranoia, anxiety, and misapprehension.

The scope of the production is to expose the misinformation (and downright lies) dispensed by the government concerning the atomic bomb. We are shown vignettes from such classic instructional films as Duck and Cover, wherein school children are assured that they will survive a nuclear attack simply by huddling together next to the schoolhouse wall. In another sequence, a pack of pigs are dressed in Army uniforms and left to die at “Ground Zero” during a nuclear test to see if human beings (who purportedly have the same skin consistency as pigs) could endure such an ordeal. Fascinating though it is, Atomic Cafe makes its basic point early in the proceedings, then tends to repeat that point over and over rather than expand upon it.

Narrated through an astonishing array of vintage clips and music–from military training films to campy advertisements, presidential speeches to pop songs–the film revolves around the threat–and thrill–of the newly minted atomic bomb. Taking aim at the propaganda and false optimism of the 1950s, the film’s satire shines most vividly in the clever image splicing, such as footage of a decimated Hiroshima alongside cheerful suburban “duck-and-cover” routines.

Question: Why can’t we talk straight when blindfolded? There is still no good answer. You might think you’re walking straight, but as NPR’s Robert Krulwich reports, a map of your route would reveal you are doomed to walk in circles. Undoubtedly, going straight is difficult if not impossible.

There is a crazy contest in Spain where people gather in the Catalan city of Tarragona and compete to build the highest, most intricate human tower.

Every two years, the competitors called ‘castellers’ gather for this one of a kind Catalan tradition that requires astonishing strength, fitnesse and balance. And most of all, courage.

Watch the video above from last year’s competition, and check out for the the toddlers that climb up at the very top of the towers and occasionally fall in a sea of people who act as a human cushion. The next event will be slated next year 2012.
