I followed this conflict closely on the internet as it unfolded, and I was shocked and sickened by how the Western media covered it — they never even began reporting on it until the Russian troops arrived — they were too busy reporting on the Beijing Olympics opening ceremonies — and then all reports focused on Russia’s “invasion” of Georgia, without any back story. When the Bush administration framed this as being the potential beginning of a new Cold War, the Western media dutifully reported it as being that. And the EU, NATO, and the UN all followed suit in condemning Russia’s response and not acknowledging Georgia’s invasion of South Ossetia. I find it very sad that this documentary film from Russia is the first and only documentary film I’ve found about the conflict — where are the films from BBC or PBS?
